INVOLVED IN CHURCH LEADERSHIP?

Pastor to People . . . . . . . . . . . . .

As we look at our country and the decisions that are being made and the direction it is going, the question is, “Will God bless America in 2010?”

God did bless us in the last century. One hundred years ago Katherine Lee Bates wrote: GOD SHED HIS GRACE ON THEE AND CROWN THY GOOD WITH BROTHERHOOD FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA. God blessed us in the birth of our nation.

In 1783, Ezra Stiles, President of Yale, contended that “only God’s invisible hand had led America to victory in the Revolutionary War against such extreme obstacles. In our lowest and most
dangerous state, in 1776 and 1777, we sustained ourselves against the British army of 60,000 troops, the best generals, and a naval force of 22,000. Who but a Washington, inspired by Heaven, could have conceived the surprise move upon the enemy that Christmas Eve when Washington and his army crossed the Delaware? Who but the `Ruler of the winds’ could have delayed re-enforcements by three months of contrary ocean winds at a crucial point of the war? Or what but “a providential miracle” at the last moment detected the treacherous scheme of traitor Benedict Arnold?”

On the French role in the revolution, “It is God who so ordered the balancing interests of nations as to produce an irresistible motive in the European maritime powers to take our part...” Stiles concluded, “The United States are under peculiar obligations to become a holy people unto the Lord our God.”

George Washington said, “No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand which conducts the affairs of men more than the people of the United States…We ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of Heaven cannot be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which heaven itself has ordained.”

The facts have never changed. The most patriotic thing in 2010 is to pray for spiritual awakening, beginning with your own life and then in the lives of our fellow Americans. We must do what we can and God will do what we can’t.  I challenge you to join us Wednesdays in the prayer room and Wednesday nights at 6:00 to pray for this spiritual awakening and for God to keep His hand on America.

God bless America.
